Biography

Finding inspiration in classic portraiture and cinema, London-based artist Christianah Ebenezer’s
(formerly known as Christina) images are replete with rich colour and texture.

Born in Nigeria, Christianah spent her early years in Lagos before moving to join her immediate
family in London. Here, she found visual inspiration in film, music videos and personal family portraiture.
Drawing many of her formative references from the sensitive combination of composition and mood
found in cinematography, a quality that is noticeably present in her own work today.

Her practice is dedicated to presenting her subjects in their truest essence, whilst additionally using
her work as a powerful platform for the visibility of subjects of colour. By utilising various techniques
and soft, subdued light, she aims “to highlight not only the range of beauty that we hold as
individuals, but also the various ways in which we can be depicted”.

She attributes her Christian faith as the key reason her visual gift has transcended globally.
This path has led to many transformative experiences, such as shooting in Nigeria, where
Christianah returned home for the first time since childhood. Here, she was able to collaborate
with exceptional local talent and spend meaningful time with extended family.

Christianah has been named both a Forbes 30 Under 30 Arts & Culture Leader and a
British Fashion Council New Wave Creative. Her work was included as part of the exhibition
‘The New Black Vanguard: Photography Between Art and Fashion’, curated by Antwaun Sargent,
debuting at London’s Saatchi Gallery in 2022.

In 2024, two of Christianah’s portraits were unveiled at the National Portrait Gallery.
